  • Dakota Territory/Federal Census, 1885. Microfilm of original records (for southern Dakota Territory counties) at the South Dakota State Historical Society in Pierre, South Dakota. Much of the 1885 Census has been lost or destroyed. Filmed by the SDSHS in 1971, 2 rolls at the FHL, #1405268 and 1405269. The surviving schedules were indexed in South Dakota 1885 Census Index, compiled by Ronald Vern Jackson, et al., published by Accelerated Indexing Systems, 1984.

Filmed by the Genealogical Society of Utah, 2003, 733 rolls, beginning with FHL film #2369161.
     
  • South Dakota State Censuses, 1895-1945. The 1895 has only six surviving counties, but all subsequent state censuses are virtually complete, the originals located at the South Dakota State Historical Society. All of South Dakota's state censuses were microfilmed by the Genealogical Society of Utah and are available at the Family History Library in Salt Lake City.
